Čiurlionis House is located in Savičiaus street 11, in Vilnius, where Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, one of the greatest artist of Lithuania, lived in 1907-1908. Čiurlionis House is opening the exhibition and launching cycles of events to celebrate 110th anniversary of the Lithuanian Art Society.
Lithuanian Art Society was established in Vilnius on 15th September in 1907 m. This group of Lithuanian artist was important not just because it influenced Čiurlionis decision to stay and create in Vilnius, but also this Society was greatly important while building national identity, awakening cultural self-consciousness and inspiring nation for aspirations to seek statehood. Čiurlionis actively joined Society since the establishment of it – he presented his work during the first Society’s exhibition, he organized the second one, he also contributed to creating and defining statutes, goals and activities of Society, created musicians section in it and was the first one to promise to give all his artwork to museums in Lithuania.
Čiurlionis House in partnership with Lithuania Art Museum, National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum, Lithuanian Literature and Art Archive, collector dr. Jaunius Gumbys, M. and J. Šlapeliai House-Museum is presenting an exhibition of M. K. Čiurlionis, A. Žmuidzinavičius, K. Stabrauskas, P. Kalpokas, A. Jaroševičius, T. Daugirdas, A. Staneika, K. Šklėrius art work. Also unique and never shown documents of Lithuanian Art Society which allows to fully understand and explain the goals and importance of this Society for Lithuania.
Exhibition can be visited from 14th September to 15th November at Čiurlionis House. Exhibition will be followed by series of cultural events which will explore history, culture of the last century and influence of Society to nowadays Lithuania.
During the opening night of the exhibition on September 14th, for the first time ever, Čiurlionis song for vocal and piano „Thoughtful Angels“ will be performed by soprano Ona Kolobovaitė and pianist Justas Šervenikas.
Čiurlionis birthday on September 22nd will be celebrated with the presentation of the book „Čiurlionis House In Vilnius“. Book is collection of V. Landsbergis, R. Bukaveckienė, N. Gaidauskienė articles and three R. Markeliūnas documentary movies about epoch Čiurlionis lived in and importance of Čiurlionis for nowadays Lithuania. Evening will be brightened by performance of Čiurlionis music by ensemble „Regnum musicale“- Joana Daunytė (harp), Vita Marija Daunytė (flute), Kotryna Ugnė Daunytė (violin), Elena Daunytė (cello).
On October 7th the afternoon for gourmands of history and culture is planned. Visitors will have opportunity to meet prof. Egidijus Aleksandravičius, who will give a lecture “Art and Artists Friendship During XIX Century’s Spring of the Nations”. Afterwards, visitors will be invited to enjoy new concert program „Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and Eugenij Morawski: Friends in the Crossroad of History“ performed by pianists Sonata and Rokas Zubovai and soprano Aušra Liutkutė. This concert will be the first opportunity to listen of Eugenijus Morawskis piano composition in Vilnius.
Many creative aspirations of Čiurlionis were never finished and stayed in sketches. This way Čiurlionis created an opportunity of nowadays musicians to continue his music tradition. On October 25th at Čiurlionis House, young artists Dmitrij Golovanov and Jan Maksimowicz invites listeners to Čiurlionis music improvisations evening “M. K. Čiurlionio sketches”.
Event cycle will be closed with extraordinary concert at Vilnius City Hall on November 21th. Concert will be dedicated to Gabrielius Landsbergis-Žemkalnis, who established “Kanklės“ society, which’s choir was led by M. K. Čiurlionis, who directed many plays and wrote libretto for first Lithuanian opera “Birutė“ (composer M. Petrauskas). Evening will be greeted by speeches of prof.,Viktorija Daujotytė, prof. Vytautas Landsbergis. Unique concert of Čiurlionis cantata “De profundis” will be performed by Asta Krikščiūnaitė (soprano), choir „Aidija“ (Romualdas Gražinis), pianist Rokas Zubovas.
